On October 2, 2025, Plug Power announced that it had completed delivery of its first 10‑megawatt GenEco electrolyzer module to Galp’s Sines Refinery in Portugal. The module is the first of ten similar arrays that will be installed on site by early 2026, bringing the project’s total electrolyzer capacity to 100 MW.
The 100‑MW plant is expected to produce up to 15,000 tons of renewable hydrogen per year, replacing 20 % of the grey hydrogen currently used at the refinery. Plug estimates that the switch will cut the refinery’s Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse‑gas emissions by roughly 110,000 tons of CO₂‑equivalent annually.
This delivery marks Plug Power’s largest project worldwide and the largest PEM electrolyzer deployment underway in Europe. The company’s GenEco platform, known for its modular “leg‑on‑leg” design, is positioned to accelerate large‑scale hydrogen production in the region.
The milestone underscores Plug Power’s strategy to capture a growing share of the European electrolyzer market and supports its broader goal of achieving profitability through cost reductions and high‑margin projects. The successful delivery also signals progress toward the company’s planned expansion of electrolyzer deployments in Spain, the United Kingdom, and other key markets.
