Rogers Communications announced it has received clearance from the Competition Bureau to proceed with its acquisition of Bell's 37.5% ownership stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE). The Competition Bureau issued a 'no-action letter' on December 12, 2024, indicating no challenge to the acquisition.

This clearance marks an important step in securing approvals for the C$4.7 billion deal, which was initially announced in September. The transaction remains subject to further approvals from sports leagues and the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

The acquisition is a critical component of Rogers' core business strategy, aiming to expand its ownership of MLSE and leverage live sports and entertainment assets. This regulatory milestone moves Rogers closer to becoming a majority owner of one of the world's most prestigious sports and entertainment organizations.
