On January 20, 2025, China officially launched national trade-in subsidies for mobile phones, tablets, and smartwatches, both online and offline. This government initiative aims to stimulate domestic consumption and accelerate the circular economy by encouraging consumers to upgrade their electronic devices.

The new policy offers a 15% subsidy, capped at RMB 500, for new devices priced below RMB 6,000. This direct financial incentive is expected to significantly increase the volume of pre-owned electronics entering the recycling market, directly benefiting platforms like ATRenew.

ATRenew, in collaboration with its strategic partner JD.com, has already launched promotional campaigns to align with the Lunar New Year holiday and capitalize on these new subsidies. The company anticipates a rapid growth in trade-in demand from JD.com users, further solidifying its position in the pre-owned electronics recycling sector.
