Rivian has initiated a voluntary safety recall affecting 19,641 R1S and R1T electric vehicles. The recall covers vehicles that received service involving separation and reassembly of the rear suspension toe link joint before March 10 2025. Production dates for affected vehicles range from August 23 2021 (R1T) to March 10 2025 (R1S).

The issue stems from an improperly reassembled rear toe link during service, which could compromise steering stability. Rivian will replace the rear toe‑link bolts at no cost to owners. The company has confirmed only one crash involving a vehicle from the recall cohort, resulting in minor injuries.

This recall follows a series of earlier safety actions, including a 34,824‑vehicle recall for seatbelt pretensioner cables, a 17,260‑vehicle recall for headlights that failed in cold weather, and a 12,000‑vehicle recall for steering knuckle fasteners that could lead to wheel separation. The pattern of recalls has raised questions about Rivian’s quality‑control processes across manufacturing and service operations.

Management has emphasized a commitment to improving quality and has highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen training and inspection protocols at service centers. The recall underscores the importance of rigorous quality control in a company still building its reputation in the competitive electric‑vehicle market.

In pre‑market trading, Rivian’s shares slipped 0.4%, reflecting investor concern over the cumulative impact of multiple recalls on brand perception and future sales.
