Republic Services, Inc. announced on September 30, 2025, that an independent product carbon footprint (PCF) study confirmed its recycled plastic flake, produced at the Las Vegas Polymer Center, has a significantly lower carbon footprint. The study found a 54% lower global warming potential compared to representative rPET flake alternatives.
Furthermore, the rPET flake from Republic Services' facility demonstrated an 82% lower carbon footprint than virgin PET. This substantial reduction is attributed to the Las Vegas Polymer Center's efficient, patented equipment line and the lower carbon footprint of the regional utility grid.
This quantifiable environmental benefit enhances the marketability of Republic Services' recycled products, helping customers meet their recycled content goals and reduce Scope 3 emissions. The company operates Polymer Centers in Las Vegas and Indianapolis, with a third under construction in Allentown, Pennsylvania, each capable of producing approximately 120 million pounds of bottle-grade recycled plastics annually.
