Collins Aerospace, a business unit of RTX Corporation, secured a $438 million contract from the Federal Aviation Administration to supply next‑generation cooperative and non‑cooperative radar systems for the Department of Transportation’s Brand New Air Traffic Control System modernization program. The award covers the Condor Mk3 and ASR‑XM models and will replace up to 612 legacy ground‑based radars by June 2028, with deployment beginning in the first quarter of 2026.

The contract adds a predictable revenue stream to RTX’s already sizable backlog, which stood at $251 billion as of Q3 2025. By winning this contract, Collins Aerospace strengthens its position as the FAA’s primary radar supplier—a relationship that spans more than seven decades—and reinforces the company’s commercial aftermarket growth, which rose 18% in the most recent earnings cycle.

The new radars will provide higher resolution, longer range, and improved interoperability compared to the aging 1980s equipment that currently dominates U.S. airspace. The FAA’s modernization effort, funded through the $12.5 billion One Big Beautiful Bill, aims to reduce the number of radar configurations from 14 to a unified system, simplifying maintenance and logistics across the national network.

Collins Aerospace is not the sole contractor in the program; Indra Sistemas also received a contract, and Peraton serves as the prime integrator for the overall system. The competition underscores the scale of the modernization effort and the importance of delivering reliable, cost‑effective solutions to the FAA.

Management highlighted the strategic significance of the win. Nate Boelkins, president of Avionics, said the company is “ready to rapidly deploy next‑generation radar systems that replace outdated technology with a single, modern and interoperable solution.” The contract is expected to support RTX’s long‑term revenue growth and to enhance its market share in the defense and commercial aerospace aftermarket.
