Sunrun Activates First Residential Vehicle‑to‑Grid Distributed Power Plant with BGE

Sunrun Inc. (NASDAQ: RUN) announced on September 24, 2025 that it has activated the nation’s first residential vehicle‑to‑grid (V2G) distributed power plant in partnership with Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), a subsidiary of Exelon. The pilot program dispatches energy from customers’ all‑electric Ford F‑150 Lightning trucks to the grid during periods of peak demand this summer and fall. The program began dispatching energy in July, sending power from three enrolled F‑150 Lightning trucks to the grid between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays. Participating customers earn a payment based on the amount of energy shared, with a maximum of $1,000 for the dispatch season that runs through the end of September. The V2G system is co‑developed by Sunrun and Ford and uses a Home Integration System that allows the vehicle battery to serve both home backup and grid‑support functions. By demonstrating that electric‑vehicle batteries can provide dispatchable power to the grid, Sunrun expands its grid‑services offering beyond home batteries and solar. The activation marks a significant step toward monetizing distributed energy resources, aligns with Sunrun’s strategy of integrated solar‑plus‑storage solutions, and positions the company to capture new revenue streams as utilities seek flexible, low‑carbon capacity during peak demand.
