Sunrun Inc. announced a new partnership with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) to utilize hundreds of Sunrun solar-plus-storage customer homes for targeted load relief in neighborhoods with highly constrained electric grids. This collaboration aims to avoid or defer growth-related distribution investments, thereby reducing costs for ratepayers. The Sunrun-operated program, known as Local PeakShift Power, will be activated for up to 100 hours between June and October, involving approximately 600 Sunrun customers within specific PG&E service areas. Sunrun will receive information from PG&E regarding distribution grid needs and will assist in analyzing the contributions of distributed energy resources. Customers enrolled in Local PeakShift Power will receive a one-time payment of $150 per battery for sharing their stored solar energy, while Sunrun will be compensated for managing battery dispatches. This marks the second partnership between Sunrun and PG&E to create a virtual power plant, demonstrating Sunrun's ability to rapidly deploy grid-support solutions.
