On 24 October 2025, Origin Agritech Limited announced that it had obtained a new crop seed production and operation license from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The license authorizes the company to produce, process, package, wholesale, and retail corn seeds, giving Origin a broader regional footprint and the ability to scale its seed supply chain.
The same announcement confirmed that the Beijing Tongzhou District Market Supervision Administration approved the inclusion of genetically modified (GMO) crop seed production in Origin’s business scope. While each GMO crop will still require individual registration before commercialization, the approval allows the company to pursue its growing GMO pipeline in China’s rapidly expanding biotech market.
In addition to the regulatory approval, Origin reported that its subsidiary Beijing Origin Seed Ltd. increased its registered capital from RMB 30 million to RMB 100 million (US$ 14 million). The company also completed a strategic restructuring that consolidates its key production and sales entities—including Xinjiang Originbo Seed Limited—under the Beijing Origin umbrella, streamlining operations and improving efficiency.
These developments collectively expand Origin’s production capacity, strengthen its position in the North China Plain market, and provide the financial flexibility needed to accelerate R&D and market expansion. The regulatory approval and capital increase align with Origin’s long‑term roadmap to become a leading global agricultural biotechnology company, offering investors a clear path to future revenue growth.
