SS Innovations International, Inc. (SSII) has finished developing five new 5‑millimeter surgical instruments for its SSi Mantra robotic platform. The new tools—a spatula cautery, hook cautery, needle driver, bipolar forceps, and grasping forceps—are engineered for procedures that demand high precision in small anatomical structures, such as pediatric, cardiac, and head‑and‑neck surgery.

The SSi Mantra system now serves 168 installations in 12 countries, has been deployed in 153 hospitals, and has supported more than 7,800 procedures to date. By adding the 5‑mm instrument set, SSII broadens the system’s applicability to a patient population that has historically been underserved by robotic surgery, particularly children and patients requiring delicate cardiac interventions. The expansion is expected to increase adoption in emerging markets where the company’s low‑cost platform is positioned as a competitive alternative to higher‑priced systems.

SSII’s strategy centers on affordability and access. The new instruments enable the Mantra platform to enter the pediatric and cardiac markets—segments that represent a significant unmet need, with 1.7 billion children worldwide lacking access to critical surgical care and 390 million children under five in lower‑ and middle‑income countries without timely, safe surgical intervention. By addressing these gaps, SSII aims to capture a larger share of the global surgical‑robotics market and to reinforce its competitive advantage over players such as Intuitive Surgical.

The company has also advanced its regulatory trajectory, having submitted a 510(k) pre‑market notification to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in December 2025 and pursuing CE marking in Europe. SSII’s broader product ecosystem—including the SSi Mudra instruments, SSi Maya training platform, and SSi Yantra multimedia recording system—supports a comprehensive surgical‑robotics solution that can be scaled across multiple specialties.

Dr. Vishwa Srivastava, SSII’s CEO for the Asia Pacific region, said the new 5‑mm instruments “will bring robotic precision to children and other delicate procedures that have been difficult to perform with conventional tools.” He added that the expansion aligns with the company’s mission to make robotic surgery affordable and accessible worldwide.
