SolarBank Corporation announced on October 14, 2024, its plans to develop a 7 MW DC ground-mount solar power project, known as the Stauffer project, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This project is an addition to the 13.8 MW DC Grandview project announced last week, forming part of a total of 24.8 MW DC in planned projects.
The Stauffer project is expected to power 820 homes and represents one of the first community solar initiatives in Pennsylvania. The development of community solar projects in the state was enabled by the Pennsylvania House Bill 1842, passed on March 26, 2024, which is currently under review by the Senate.
SolarBank has secured a lease for the project site and is proceeding with permitting, interconnection, and securing the necessary financing for construction. The company's strategic focus on community solar aims to expand access to renewable energy for residents, including renters, without requiring individual panel installations.
