Teck Resources Limited today announced that the British Columbia Government has issued an Environmental Assessment Certificate for the proposed Highland Valley Copper Mine Life Extension (HVC MLE) project. This positive decision is a crucial step towards extending the life of Canada’s largest copper mine.

President and CEO Jonathan Price stated that this approval strengthens the North American critical minerals supply chain and will contribute to jobs and economic activity. Site preparation work is expected to commence shortly, with a final construction sanction decision by Teck’s Board of Directors anticipated in the third quarter of 2025.

The HVC MLE project is projected to create approximately 2,900 jobs during its construction phase and will support about 1,500 direct jobs and $500 million in annual GDP once operational. The extension is expected to prolong the mine's life until the mid-2040s.
