Toyota Motor Corporation announced a recall of 55,405 U.S. vehicles after the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration identified a loose bolt inside the inverter that could cause incomplete contact at the inverter terminal. The recall covers 2025‑2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid models and 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid models that were produced between late August and late November 2025.

The loose bolt, supplied by Denso Manufacturing Tennessee, can lead to a short circuit that may cause loss of motive power at high speeds and a fire hazard. Because of the severity of the risk, Toyota has issued a “Do Not Drive, Park Outside” advisory for affected vehicles while a remedy is being developed. Owners will receive notification by mid‑February 2026 and the repair will be performed at no cost.

Toyota has received 34 field technical reports and 15 warranty claims related to the defect as of December 10, 2025. The company’s proactive recall and communication with the NHTSA demonstrate its commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. The recall is a material regulatory action that could increase repair expenses and impact customer confidence, but it also reflects Toyota’s ongoing focus on quality control in its hybrid powertrain supply chain.

Toyota’s history of inverter‑related recalls—such as the 2017 recall of 2016 Prius hybrids for missing capacitor mounting bolts—highlights a recurring area of concern for its hybrid technology. The current recall underscores the importance of rigorous supplier oversight and the potential cost implications of safety defects in high‑volume models.

The recall’s impact on Toyota’s financials is limited to repair costs and potential warranty expenses, but it may influence long‑term brand perception. The company’s swift action and clear advisory aim to mitigate safety risks and preserve consumer trust in its hybrid lineup.
