Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. announced a Technology Alliance Agreement with the Chan Zuckerberg Institute for Advanced Biological Imaging (CZ Imaging Institute), aimed at developing new technologies to enhance the visualization of human cells. This collaboration is expected to significantly advance scientific research and discovery in structural cell biology.
The agreement focuses on further developing laser phase plate technology for cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), which is an essential tool in disease research and the creation of life-saving therapeutics. This enhancement will improve cellular biology imaging at high resolution, allowing scientists to see cellular structures in their native environments with greater detail.
This project builds on existing collaborations with Professor Holger Müller and his team at the University of California, Berkeley, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The partnership brings together scientists and cryo-EM experts to maximize the impact of this new laser phase plate technology, enabling the broader scientific community to collect more information from their cryo-EM efforts.
