Telesat announced on March 10, 2025, the signing of a development contract with QEST Quantenelektronische Systeme GmbH for a Telesat Lightspeed Aero Flat Panel Antenna (FPA). QEST is a leading supplier of antennas for aeronautical connectivity.
Under the agreement, QEST will extend its patented FPA antenna technology for Lightspeed, including the development of transmit and receive antenna apertures, RF components, and the antenna control unit. The QEST-designed FPA is expected to provide high reliability with very low power consumption and no active cooling.
This antenna is anticipated to support data rates over 1 Gbps on the Lightspeed network, offering LEO-optimized solutions as well as multi-network and multi-orbit operations. This development is crucial for providing increased options and flexibility for inflight connectivity service providers and their customers in the demanding aviation market.
