Textron Aviation Inc., a Textron Inc. company, announced on July 14, 2025, that the Cessna Skyhawk, an industry-leading training aircraft, now features a dual electronic ignition system (dual EIS) as standard on all new aircraft. This enhancement aims to improve maintenance, efficiency, and overall operation of the single-engine, high-wing piston.
The dual Lycoming electronic ignition system replaces the previous dual magneto ignition system, incorporating advanced electronic components and reducing internal moving parts. This solid-state technology is designed to optimize operation, improve maintenance intervals, and enhance fuel efficiency and engine performance.
Chris Crow, vice president, Piston & Utility Sales, stated that this incorporation demonstrates Textron Aviation’s continued commitment to its piston aircraft, including the legendary Cessna Skyhawk. The aircraft, celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, continues to play a vital role in supporting pilots globally by easing operations and reducing operating costs.
