U-Haul closed its store at 1032 E. 46th St. in Austin, Texas, on March 31, 2025, after 20 years of operation. The property is being transferred to the Texas Department of Transportation as part of the Interstate 35 expansion project in Austin. This closure is a direct result of external infrastructure development.
Seven Team Members were let go due to the cessation of operations at the U-Haul Moving & Storage at I-35 and Airport Boulevard center. Kristina Ramos, U-Haul Company of Austin president, noted that it was a 'prime, five-star location.' Customers can find alternative U-Haul services at nearby locations, including U-Haul at University Texas and U-Haul at North Lamar.
While the closure results in job losses and the loss of a long-standing location, U-Haul aims to redirect customer demand to its other facilities in the area. The company continuously evaluates its network for growth opportunities and sometimes finds it necessary to close or relocate stores due to various factors, including long-term strategic plans and physical site limitations.
