U-Haul announced that its center at 400 Orchard Drive in West Columbia, South Carolina, has closed several services and transitioned to a remotely operated self-storage facility. This change was completed on February 4, 2025. The facility had operated as a full-service center for 42 years.
As a result of the service closures, seven Team Members were let go. The facility will continue to offer self-storage, but other services like truck and trailer rentals and retail showroom operations have ceased. This operational adjustment aims to optimize resources and adapt to local market conditions.
U-Haul stated that such closures or relocations can occur due to various factors, including long-term strategic plans, physical site limitations, and proximity to other existing locations. The company continues to explore opportunities for growth while making necessary adjustments to its network. This move reflects a recalibration of services in the West Columbia area.
