U-Haul announced the start of production for its new Toy Hauler trailer on April 29, 2025, marking the first addition to its rental fleet of American-made trailers in 23 years. This multi-use transport is designed for towing large-capacity vehicles and other massive flatbed items, boasting a max load of 6,834 pounds. This capacity is nearly 30% greater than the U-Haul Auto Transport's max load of 5,290 pounds. The Toy Hauler's deck is almost two feet wider and four feet longer than the Auto Transport, featuring three easy-use retractable loading ramps, drive-over fenders, and numerous heavy-duty tie-down points. Initial production runs are underway in Tempe, Pomona, Novi, and Warrington, with the first 1,000 trailers expected by mid-summer and 5,000 by the end of 2025. It is available for rent at some U-Haul locations for in-town and one-way use, with in-town rates starting at $89.95 a day. Jasmine Spencer, U-Haul Towing Program manager, stated that customer response has been fantastic, recognizing a clear need for trailers that can handle bigger loads like large SUVs, trucks, side-by-sides, and tractors. This new product expands U-Haul's market reach and caters to evolving customer needs for transporting larger items. The introduction of the Toy Hauler will not affect the existing U-Haul fleet.
