United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) announced consolidated operating results for the third quarter of 2024, reporting revenue of NT$60.49 billion. This represents a 6.5% sequential increase from NT$56.80 billion in the second quarter of 2024 and a 6.0% increase compared to the same period last year.
The company's gross margin for the third quarter stood at 33.8%, with net income attributable to shareholders of the parent reaching NT$14.47 billion. Earnings per ordinary share were NT$1.16, or US$0.183 per ADS.
Wafer shipments increased by 7.8% sequentially, reaching 896K, and the capacity utilization rate improved to 71% from 68% in the previous quarter. Revenue from UMC's specialty portfolio, particularly 22/28nm products, hit a record high, accounting for 53.1% of total sales, demonstrating the success of its differentiated technology strategy.
For the fourth quarter of 2024, UMC anticipates demand to stabilize across end markets, with a clear downward trend in inventory levels. The company projects a slight increase in total capacity to 1,280K 12-inch equivalent wafers.
