On January 29, 2025, Energy Fuels Inc. announced a landmark agreement with the Navajo Nation governing the transport of uranium ore across federal and state highways within the Nation's boundaries. This agreement is expected to allow ore transport from the Pinyon Plain Mine to the White Mesa Mill to resume in February 2025.
The agreement includes additional protections beyond existing U.S. Department of Transportation requirements, such as enhanced emergency response plans, specific routes and times for transport, and a prohibition on shipments during cultural celebrations. Trucks will be covered to prevent dust, and provisions for escorts and blessings are included.
Energy Fuels has also committed to transporting up to 10,000 tons of uranium-bearing cleanup materials from abandoned mines within the Navajo Nation at no cost. The company will make further contributions to support the Nation's transportation safety programs, education, environment, public health, and local economic development related to uranium matters.
