September 20, 2025
VIAVI Solutions Inc. officially opened its VIAVI Automated Lab-as-a-Service (VALOR) Open RAN testing facility in Chandler, Arizona, on October 8, 2024. The facility was established with funding from a grant by the U.S. National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund. VALOR offers a fully automated, open, and impartial Lab-as-a-Service suite for Open RAN interoperability, performance, and security testing. This new facility addresses challenges in accelerating Open RAN adoption by providing access to test capabilities that were previously only available to large, established players. Its highly automated, on-demand 'pay-as-you-go' approach simplifies the development and deployment of Open RAN technologies. This offers new entrants and start-ups a pathway to U.S. certification without requiring significant investment in hardware and software. VALOR leverages VIAVI's NITRO Wireless Open RAN Test Suite and VAMOS unified framework, integrating technologies from partners like Rohde & Schwarz, ETS-Lindgren, Fujitsu, SOLiD, and Capgemini. The lab is designed to facilitate better readiness for certification and acceptance tests at OTICs and CSP labs, and is the first test service authorized by the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) for its system performance certification program.
