Viavi Solutions announced a new all‑in‑one testing platform that delivers bidirectional optical time‑domain reflectometry (OTDR) analysis, polarization‑mode dispersion (PMD), chromatic dispersion (CD), and attenuation profiling for hollow core fiber (HCF) links.
The platform integrates Viavi’s 8100 Series OTDR modules, optical dispersion measurement modules, and ReportPRO software into a single system that can certify short, medium, and long‑haul HCF connections.
Hollow core fiber offers up to 30 % lower latency, 70 % reduced chromatic dispersion, and 65 % lower attenuation compared with conventional single‑mode fiber, making it attractive for data‑center interconnects, high‑frequency trading, quantum communication, and defense applications.
By providing a single test system that covers the full range of HCF link lengths, Viavi fills a gap that previously required multiple instruments, positioning the company to capture a niche in the growing data‑center interconnect market.
Kevin Oliver, Vice President and General Manager of Fiber and Access Solutions, said the new solution addresses the unique testing challenges of HCF and supports the industry’s shift toward higher‑performance fiber.
The launch expands Viavi’s portfolio beyond Layer 0‑1, allowing the company to serve the full network stack and strengthen its competitive moat in the high‑margin data‑center segment.
Analysts note that the HCF market is expected to grow as AI workloads and high‑frequency trading demand lower latency, and Viavi’s first‑to‑market position could give it a foothold in this emerging segment.
