Josh Chen, founder and chairman of VNET Group, has co-founded Zen42.ai, an innovative platform that has officially joined Mobii Green Energy's New Zealand Green HI-City project. This project aims to establish the world's first green hydrogen-powered data center, setting a new global standard for sustainable AI infrastructure. The initiative is expected to raise $2 billion in investments and will integrate 850 MW of solar power, 300 MW of wind power, and green hydrogen production facilities to support a 150 MW AI data center.
Zen42.ai is supported by the Hyper-Connected AI Consortium, a non-governmental organization headquartered in Hong Kong and sponsored by VNET Group. This backing solidifies Zen42.ai's role in leading sustainable AI-native infrastructure projects, reinforcing its importance within the Green HI-City initiative. The project's strategic location near New Zealand’s largest hydroelectric plant allows for direct power grid connection, reducing infrastructure costs and shortening the permitting process.
The involvement of VNET's founder and the company's sponsorship of the supporting consortium highlight a strategic alignment with VNET's own Hyperscale 2.0 framework, which focuses on building greener and more intelligent AI data centers. This collaboration could signal future technological advancements or strategic partnerships for VNET in the rapidly expanding green AI infrastructure market. Zen42.ai also plans to introduce innovative incentive models such as carbon credit tokens and green computing power tokens using blockchain technology.
