Verra Mobility Corporation announced on October 16, 2024, that the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board of Directors approved its contract to design, build, operate, and maintain a speed safety program. This program represents California's first automated speed safety initiative, leveraging advanced technology across 33 camera locations in San Francisco. The implementation process for the speed safety cameras will commence immediately, with the goal of achieving full operational status in early 2025. This initiative is authorized under Assembly Bill 645, which became law in January 2024, allowing six pilot cities in California to deploy camera systems for speed enforcement. San Francisco is the first of these pilot cities to complete its procurement process and select a vendor, positioning Verra Mobility as a key player in this newly opened market. The company's executive vice president of Government Solutions, Jon Baldwin, stated that Verra Mobility looks forward to partnering with San Francisco to help achieve its Vision Zero goal, aiming to reduce speeding and protect lives.
