Western Digital announced today the opening of its expanded System Integration and Test (SIT) Lab in Rochester, Minnesota. The 25,600‑square‑foot facility is designed to accelerate the qualification of next‑generation high‑capacity hard disk drives and to provide customers with a mini data‑center environment for real‑world testing.
The lab features dedicated testing, validation, and production ramp areas, allowing customers to deploy maximum storage density with unmatched economics at scale. Engineers work side‑by‑side with key hyperscale clients throughout the product lifecycle, from development to end‑of‑life support.
By shortening the time‑to‑value for new HDDs, the expanded SIT Lab underpins Western Digital’s strategy to meet the growing demand from AI and cloud workloads. The facility also supports the company’s goal of delivering reliable, high‑capacity storage that meets the performance and reliability needs of hyperscale data centers.
The Rochester site is part of Western Digital’s global SIT lab network, which serves more than 2,000 customer systems worldwide. The expansion reflects the company’s commitment to community investment and to building a workforce that drives continued storage innovation.
