Weatherford International plc and Maersk Training have entered into a strategic partnership to jointly develop and commercialize IADC‑accredited Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) training programs covering all IADC MPD levels.
The collaboration leverages Weatherford’s 55‑year legacy in MPD technology, including the first rotating control device introduced in 1968, and Maersk Training’s 47‑year history of global training excellence and state‑of‑the‑art simulators.
The partnership will launch simulation‑based training courses in Houston, Rio de Janeiro, Dubai, and Aberdeen, with the first accredited programs scheduled to become available in Q1 2026. Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
By providing accredited training at every MPD level, the alliance aims to raise industry‑wide competency standards, enhance safety and efficiency in drilling operations, and support broader adoption of Weatherford’s advanced MPD technologies such as Victus™ Intelligent MPD and PressurePro® control systems.
The partnership builds on a 2015 collaboration that integrated Weatherford’s OneSync™ software into Maersk Training’s simulators, and reflects the growing demand for certified MPD crews amid deepwater and high‑pressure/high‑temperature drilling activity.
