Walmart Inc. opened a 300,000‑square‑foot, $350 million milk‑processing plant in Valdosta, Georgia, on December 2, 2025. The facility is the retailer’s second owned‑and‑operated dairy plant in the United States and the first fully owned dairy processing site in the country.

The new plant will produce Great Value and Sam’s Club Member’s Mark milk and dairy products for more than 650 Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs across the Southeast, giving the company direct control over sourcing, processing, and distribution. The investment is expected to create over 400 jobs in production, quality‑control, and logistics, boosting local employment and strengthening the regional supply chain.

By owning the processing step, Walmart can lock in lower input costs, improve product quality, and respond more quickly to consumer demand. The move is part of a broader strategy to reduce reliance on third‑party suppliers, enhance pricing power, and capture margin expansion in high‑volume grocery categories.

The Valdosta facility aligns with Walmart’s pledge to invest $350 billion in U.S.‑made products by 2031 and supports the retailer’s focus on local sourcing and supply‑chain resilience. The plant also positions Walmart to capture a larger share of the U.S. dairy market while reinforcing its commitment to U.S. manufacturing.

Bruce Heckman, Vice President of Manufacturing for Walmart U.S., said the new facility “has innovation at its core. It will bolster our capacity to meet the demand for high‑quality milk, make our supply chain more resilient, and build even greater transparency around sourcing.”
