Walmart Inc. has entered into a partnership with Alquist, a pioneer in 3‑D construction‑printing technology, to deploy the company’s A1X printers across the United States. The first commercial project will begin in Lamar, Missouri, in December 2025, marking Walmart’s inaugural large‑scale 3‑D‑printed building effort.

The partnership model is structured to combine the strengths of all parties: Alquist supplies the printers, financing, and training; Hugg & Hall provides equipment financing and service support; FMGI owns and leases the printers to construction sites. Walmart contributes its extensive retail network, logistics capabilities, and access to construction sites, creating a turnkey solution that can be replicated nationwide.

Alquist plans to launch more than a dozen commercial projects across the country, building on pilot successes at a Walmart Supercenter in Athens, Tennessee, and at the Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, Supercenter. These pilots demonstrated the technology’s ability to reduce material waste by 55% and construction time by 15%, setting the stage for broader deployment.

Strategically, the deal expands Walmart’s footprint beyond retail and e‑commerce into a new industry. By leveraging its supply‑chain network, Walmart can offer cost‑effective, sustainable building solutions to commercial developers, potentially creating a new revenue stream and reinforcing its image as a technology‑driven omnichannel retailer.

Management highlighted the partnership’s significance. Alquist CEO Patrick Callahan said, “For the first time ever in our industry, we have the right partners in place to scale 3‑DCP at a massive level.” Hugg & Hall President John Hugg added, “We’re bringing a new generation of construction equipment to market that will reduce cost while improving build time.” FMGI President Darin Ross noted, “The technology is faster to mobilize, cleaner on‑site, and delivers consistent quality.” Alquist founder Zachary Mannheimer emphasized, “This partnership is the moment 3‑DCP becomes commercialized at scale.”

Financial news outlets have covered the announcement positively, citing the nationwide scale, Walmart’s involvement, and the innovative partnership model as key drivers of interest. The coverage underscores the potential for 3‑D printing to transform commercial construction by cutting waste, accelerating timelines, and lowering costs, while positioning Walmart as a pioneer in sustainable building solutions.
