Western Copper and Gold Corporation announced on October 6, 2025, the formal submission of its Environmental and Socio-economic Effects Statement (ESE Statement) for the proposed Casino Project to the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB). This submission represents a significant positive step in the Panel Review process under the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act.
The ESE Statement details the assessment of potential Project-related and cumulative environmental and socio-economic effects. With the implementation of comprehensive environmental management measures, including mitigation and monitoring plans, residual effects were assessed as not significant across all Valued Environmental and Socio-economic Components.
An MNP study highlighted the Casino Project's economic impacts, positioning it to become one of North America's largest producers of copper and molybdenum. It is expected to rank as Canada's second-largest copper producer and the country's single largest molybdenum producer, increasing domestic production by 15% and 500% respectively.
